What would you like to see on this site?

Hello Sisters of Local 518!

As I continue to build this site, I am looking for some input into the types of things that you would like to see on here.  This is your site and I am hoping that you will all check it weekly for updates and information and notices.  So I encourage everyone to leave a comment and tell me what you would love to see on here, what would be useful and practical, what kind of information are you seeking or maybe questions that you would like to have answered about the Union or how you can get involved.

I hope you are all enjoying the warm days of July and a summer that I personally was not sure was ever going to arrive.

The loss of a Union Brother

Dear Sisters of Local 518

I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Curt Bishop this past 2008 Convention, some of you may also have known Curt from events in the past.  He was a dedicated and passionate activist who will be missed in our big OPSEU family.  The story below is taken from the OPSEU website.

Curt Bishop, 52 corrections activist from Sault Ste. Marie

 June 30, 2008

The union is saddened by the passing of Curt Bishop, Local 678, an OPSEU member/activist for more than two decades. Curt passed away suddenly this morning.

Brother Curt worked at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, and was chair of the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services Provincial Health and Safety team.

Curt leaves his wife Patty, and daughters Sarah and Elaina. Members of our union express their deepest sorrow to Curt’s loved ones.

Memorial arrangements

A wake will be held:

Thursday July 3rd — 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

The funeral will be held:

Friday July 4th — 1:30 p.m.

Hello world!

Hello World, or more specifically to my sisters of Local 518!!! 

Communication between the units in our local have been lacking to say the least and I’m hoping that this blog is going to solve some of those issues.  This site can be updated as often as it needs to be and is easy to use.  I discussed with a friend what would be the easiest way to create a website and his advice was wordpress, so here we are.  It is going to take some time to develop this blog.  I am going to add a variety of pages to it, educationals, OPSEU benefits, and possibly the OPSEU constitution.  Please feel free to leave me a note with any other suggestions that you would find useful.
